“060809” – Ex Para releases song in memory of his fallen comrades.

Ex paratrooper Tom Greenwood and his band ‘Hatbox field’ have today released a brand new track – “060809” that marks the anniversary of the tragic loss of three mates in Afghanistan and they hope will raise money for the Parachute Regiments Afghanistan trust.

It was the 6th August 2009 (060809) when Tom was involved in an incident that took the lives of his colleagues Corporal Kevin Mulligan, Lance Corporal Dale Hopkins and Private Kyle Adams. The three soldiers, all from The Parachute Regiment, were killed while undertaking a routine security patrol to the north of Lashkar Gah when the Jackal vehicle they were travelling in was hit by an explosion, followed by a small arms fire attack.

Tom has since left the Army, forging a new career with his alternative rock band Hatbox Field, but has never forgotten the sacrifice of his fellow paratroopers and this is his way of marking their bravery.

Tom said “The Afghanistan Trust have really helped me and I want to try and give something back to them, raise some money and remember my mates with what is a key date in my mind – 06.08.09”
