Notts PRA Support Afghan Trust
A big thank you goes out to the Nottingham Branch of The Parachute Regimental Association who spent Armed Forces Weekend fundraising in Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on behalf of the Afghanistan Trust.
They raised a total of almost £600 over the two days. This was even more outstanding because they were competing with bad weather and about 30, or more other charities.
On the day they Nottingham PRA had one of their regular sky divers and ex 2 PARA member, Stan Hopkins, who will be 80 years old this year, drop in with a free fall display team from Langar Airfield in Nottingham.
The winds were blowing about 15 to 25 knots for most of the day and the cloud cover was very low. About 15 minutes before their scheduled drop, the clouds lifted to around 4000ft and the winds dropped to less than 10 knots allowing the display to take place. The audience were told of Stan’s age before he jumped and all made a big fuss of him as he left the arena. We are all proud of him.
Next year Wollaton Park Armed Forces Weekend has been chosen as the National main event for the UK, so hopefully we will have an even bigger success.
